Game design

Give a game a reason to matter to its player

A project can have a clever mechanic yet leave a new player unsure why to continue. The first interaction should reveal a goal and show how the player’s action changes the outcome.

Use a short value statement in plain language: solve a compact puzzle, improve a route or survive one more wave. Then test whether the opening actually delivers that activity.

Ask a playtester to describe what they were trying to do after a minute of play. If the answer differs from the intended goal, improve the feedback or instructions before adding more content.
