Define mid-core play through player needs

Mid-core is useful only when it describes an audience or a pattern of play clearly. Session length, learning effort and strategic depth can be discussed separately instead of treating the label as a genre.

A game may offer short sessions while supporting a deep system. Identify what the player must remember between sessions and how quickly meaningful decisions become available after returning.

For a prototype, define the intended session and one reason to return. Test whether the first session communicates that reason. Debate about who first used a label matters less to the design than the behavior it describes.
