Play with a different rule and see what changes
Players often create their own challenge by restricting an action, changing a goal or treating the playfield differently. A self-imposed rule can reveal a system that normal play hides.
Choose a restriction that remains observable: no repeated route, no optional power-up or a score target reached with a limited number of actions. Record the rules before starting so the challenge can be repeated.
Compare the resulting decisions with an ordinary run. Does the restriction create interesting tradeoffs, or does it simply add waiting? This is a useful exercise for discovering alternative modes in a game you design.
