Game development

Start with one complete game round

Define a start state, one action and a result. A moving sprite becomes a game when the player understands what to attempt and can tell whether the attempt succeeded.

Build the restart before adding another level. Reset score, object positions, input state and timers together so the second round behaves like the first.

Continue the study

Work through a small code example, make one deliberate change and record the effect. The reading links below connect this exercise with animation, input and retro game design.
