Make a game pause safely

Pausing should stop simulation updates and preserve a readable scene. It should also release held-input state where appropriate so resuming does not trigger an unexpected action.

Handle a hidden tab or lost focus deliberately. Reset elapsed-time measurements on resume rather than applying the full paused duration as one update.

Work through a small code example, make one deliberate change and record the effect. The reading links below connect this exercise with animation, input and retro game design.
