Video-based game hardware and player agency

A video-based shooting system can look dynamic while allowing only a narrow range of decisions. Study what the player’s input changes: a score, a branch, a target state or the sequence itself.

Compare the action shown on screen with the system’s actual feedback. A missed target should communicate failure clearly, and a hit should be distinguishable from the continuing prerecorded scene.

For a design exercise, build a short sequence with explicit interaction points. Test whether a player can explain how their actions affected the outcome. Agency becomes easier to discuss when those effects are visible.
